Fake accents are dumb. I don't mean to go off on a rant here but ... Your job is to make sure the judges understand what you are saying. Nothing more. The way some teams play it, you'd think one of the qualifications for being an expert witness is an Oxbridge accent. Even worse, witnesses that assume "southern" accents when playing uneducated characters. It's downright insulting to see students continually play to that stereotype. I vividly recall a conversation with the coach of a southern-based team. This coach was incredibly frustrated at all the ditzy southern characters she regularly sees. Even more aggravating, this coach conceded, was that her own students exaggerated their natural accents ... because it scores well!! If you have a natural accent, fine. But faking one is just plain silly. I've seen very few people pull it off well. They are either slightly off from the start, or fall out of it under heavy cross. There are better ways to make yourself believable as a dr or a dope.Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
