Team Letters

Are AMTA reps still supposed to assign team letters this year?  I'm competing at a regional right now, and they are still using the team number system.

I haven't formed an opinion about it myself...I've only seen it in a few tournaments. But I'm eager to hear your complaints, if you're willing to share.
