Eh, Collin, I'm just another pair of eyes and ears really.  I wouldn't call it "working beside" her, I just write down things I notice, like if the defense opens any doors, pretty much the same thing I do for my teammates in mock rounds.  Good practice, I didn't mean to overstate it.  But if this were Facebook I would "like" you "liking" it  :D

Sounds like great resume material at least.

TRIAL EXPERIENCE:

-Second chaired three trials for mom over the 2010 summer.

The wording is key on this one. Introduce yourself in hiring interviews as "a family man."

Awesome. What kind of work does the firm tend to focus on? Trial ad? What kind? Civil, criminal defense, family law, etc?

Ha. I'm in my hometown over the weekend anyway. Would have been fun though. Maybe we'll see you around at some of the Twin Cities tournaments.

The firm is called Memphis Area Legal Services. We basically are the public defender of civil law. MALS is the principal provider of civil legal assistance to low-income individuals and the elderly in Southwestern Tennessee. I did a lot of work with elder law and fair housing. There wasn't to much trial work, although I'd routinely make it over to the court house to watch one. Most of what I did was writing letters to banks and homeowners with fair housing, as with this economy there is a ton of poor people on the verge of losing their homes. With the elder law, I organized a project that brought free legal clinics to senior citizens across the Memphis Area. Im actually staying with the firm during the school year to help coordinate the clinics. I've loved working at a legal non-profit and would heavily recommend it. Its fulfilling work and you get tons of good experience.
