New to these forums and this Off Topic section seems dreadfully dead, so I'll start things off with a thread that was recently popular on Reddit -

Name 4 bands you like; One that people have probably heard of, One that people might have heard of, One that people probably have never heard of, and One that you think no one has heard of.

Also provide a brief description of the band and a choice song from them.

    1) The Beatles - My favorite band and if you don't know who they are then you're probably as inane as an AMTA judge. Their 7 albums from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road are perfect. No band has been able to accomplish what The Beatles have. Choice song - In My Life https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKQpRgxyyqo

    2) Daft Punk - Got me into electronic music production and the genre in general. Daft Punk is definitively the greatest house group ever. Most people now know them for their newest album Random Access Memories, but they have a rich history with soulful albums like Homework and Discovery. Choice song - One More Time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGBhQbmPwH8

    3) Neutral Milk Hotel - They've only come out with two full length LP's which have been phenomenal. Their second and last, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, was released in 1998 and is considered one of the greatest albums of all time. The album was created after lead vocalist and guitarist Jeff Mangum read the Diary of Anne Frank. He was deeply moved and isolated himself for several days, contemplating what he had read and what life was about. He then wrote 11 masterful songs in the style of a concept album. Instruments like singing saws were used to produce a deeply organic and profound sound which is indescribable without listening to the album itself. This is my favorite album of all time, and I consider myself an audiophile. Choice song - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6H8WcTPnWM

    4) Maybeshewill - There is no chance in hell you've heard of Maybeshewill. In fact, I just heard of them a couple of months ago after listening to their first album, Not For Want of Trying. They're a post-rock group, which means that their music has little if any vocals and is mostly focused on complex instrumentation. Like other post-rock groups, emphasis is placed rhythms and the guitar which produces most of the texture and timbre. To be honest, I haven't heard any other album from them other than Not For Want of Trying, but it is the album that introduced me to post-rock, melodic metal, and other vocal-less types of music. My favorite song from them by far is He Films the Clouds, Pt. 2. It starts off with a simple piano melody, which eventually introduces a simple guitar melody and light, rhythmic percussion. From here, it slowly builds into something very grand and spectacular, culminating with the only vocal line we hear in the entire track - "Now we're apart, though not through choice. Do we stay mute, or raise our voice?" Definitely chilling and an amazing couplet which almost reminds me of The Beatles' send-off at the end of, well, The End off Abbey Road. Choice song - He Films the Clouds, Pt. 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vT-8bQzkZec
    Theme - "Where there's a Whit, there's a way"
Judge - It's catchy and all, but someone in this case DIED.

Judge - I love how you mentioned Sydney's pink, sparkly, flip flops. You had me cracking up at that.
Me - ...SHE DIED! (Why are judges so stupid?)
