  • Pre-Regionals Top Performers 2018-2019

As the fall invitational season wraps up, we have compiled a list of top performers from the fall. Just like last year, we are defining a top performer as someone who has taken at least two awards at top invites (ones where 25% or more of the field was made up of people from last year’s nationals). This means that the following invites qualify: Black Squirrel (Haverford), Carolina Classic (Elon), Classic City (Georgia), Cornshucker (Iowa), CUBAIT (Columbia), GAMTI (UVA), Grand Ole’ Tournament (Vanderbilt), Habeas Hippopotamus (GW), Mumbo Jumbo (Tufts), Peach Bowl (Emory), and Yale Invitational (Yale).

Clearly these are pretty clustered in the East Coast and Midwest since it’s easier to get a critical mass of top teams together in those areas without making people travel for hours. We are in no way claiming that these are the only top competitors out there. There are certainly many great competitors on teams not invited to these particular invitationals. But we do think that these competitors deserve a shout out for prevailing against such tough competition.

We will add addenda after any future top tournament tab summaries are released.

    Attorneys:
Elizabeth Bays, Yale (Yale 18P, 17D)
Regina Campbell, Chicago (GOT 19P, 19D; GAMTI 30P)

wanf, we missed her on the GOT summary because she was in her own separate category and so not listed with all of the others. This is what comes of being too good.We have now added her in

        HVI Addendum
The Tab Summary for Penn State University’s Happy Valley Invitational was released just a few minutes after we posted. Happy Valley had 26.1% national teams, so award winners from this tournament earn spots on our top competitors list. We have one new top competitor from this tournament:

Maya Aronoff, Princeton (CUBAIT 18D Witness; HVI 18D Witness, 20P Attorney)

This leaves our list of schools with more than one top competitor unchanged.

Teams with more than one top performer:
        NYU: 4
        Yale: 4
        Virginia: 3

Really watch out for Tiffany Tam. She's grabbing awards left and right. Surprised not to see Caleb Cole anywhere... or was he a senior?

                    Shutdown Showdown Addendum
Our next tournament with more than 25% of the teams returning from nationals is the Downtown Replacement Tournament, Shutdown Showdown with 88.9% national teams, so award winners from this tournament earn spots on our top competitors list. This tournament was a bit weird in that they gave out “All Star” awards for the best performers in each role. So we will be listing them by the role in which they won their award rather than their ranks. First of all, we have some new awards for people already on our list:

Elizabeth Bays, Yale, Attorney (Yale 18P, 17D; SS Most Overall Ranks Attorney)
Brooke Bowerman, Ohio State, Witness (Carolina Classic 19D, 16P; GAMTI 25P; SS Best Grace)
Sabrina Grandhi, Virginia, Attorney (Carolina Classic 20P; Black Squirrel 18P, 18D; GAMTI 36D, 30P; SS Most Overall Runner Up)
Claudine Isaac, NYU, Attorney (Mumbo Jumbo 18D; Black Squirrel 18P; GAMTI 29D; SS P Closer)
Kai Nugent, Yale, Witness (CUBAIT 18D; Mumbo Jumbo 20D; SS Best Villafana)
Papa Yaw Senchery, NYU, Double Threat (CUBAIT 18D Attorney; GAMTI 24D Witness; SS Best Hollis/McClellan)

And we also have some new top competitors:
                    Attorney:
Steven Becker, Tufts, Attorney (Yale 17D; SS Best D Middle)

                    Witness
Karli Zubeck, Northwood (Yale 18P; SS Best McClellan)
Natalia Heguaburo, Virginia (GAMTI 28D; SS Best Hollis)

This leaves our list of schools with more than one top competitor as:
